Description
Sumbiling Eco Village: A Nature Escape
Situated on the banks of the Temburong River, Sumbiling Eco Village (SEV) is an eco-lodge that offers a variety of nature-based activities, including the popular “glamping” experience. Home to the indigenous Iban community, our mission is to achieve sustainability through environmental conservation and the responsible use of local resources. We also aim to share the rich cultural heritage and harmonious way of life of the indigenous tribes of Borneo.
At SEV, we believe in responsible tourism, making it Brunei’s first eco-tourism destination. This unique experience allows you to immerse yourself in nature while learning about the mysticism, traditional beliefs, and unique laws that shape the lives of the local community.
The surrounding area is a true nature lover’s paradise. The Temburong District, separated from the rest of Brunei by Malaysia, is home to the Ulu Temburong National Park, one of the most well-preserved rainforest areas in Borneo. SEV offers various exciting trekking and nature excursions where you can witness rare species of flora and fauna in their natural habitat.
This experience is ideal for travelers seeking respite from busy, fast-paced itineraries, allowing you to unwind and reconnect with nature. Upon arrival at SEV, you will be welcomed by our local guide who will lead you on your overland journey to the village. After settling in, you’ll have time to rest and change into your trekking attire before embarking on your adventure.
The first part of your trek will take you through secondary rainforest, showcasing a diverse range of plants with multi-purpose benefits, such as wild ginseng. These plants are an integral part of local traditions, still influencing daily life through laws, mysticism, beauty products, and handicrafts. As you trek, you’ll cross the Mutong River, navigating shallow rocky portions—a true adventure through Borneo’s wilderness.
After your trek, return to SEV for a locally made and harvested lunch. Take some time to relax and explore the mini forest trek around the village before heading back to Bandar Seri Begawan.
