Sumbiling Eco Village (SEV) recently organized a 3 days 2 nights school camp for a local school. The camp, which was held in Kampong Sumbiling Lama in Temburong, was attended by around 80 students. The camp was led by in house Borneoguide team leaders, SEV staffs, volunteers and team members.

The nature adventure filled school camp was enjoyed by the students. Apart from exposing themselves to local culture and lifestyle, they also had a chance to acquire basic survival skills such as identifying plants for medicinal purposes and jungle trekking.

The camp focused on developing  the  students’ survival skills in the rainforest. One of the interesting knowledge they acquired was identifying edible and inedible plants. They were also educated on river safety and navigation by having guided river activities. This was complimented by a night walk to spot nocturnal creatures. They also learned traditional ways for trapping small animals and using the bamboos as kitchen utensils.

Aside from these skills, they also acquired skills to enhance their personal development. It is also through these activities they improved their communication skills. The camping experience also taught  them practical skills and discipline to take care of their own sleeping environment.

With its idyllic location, the place is known to host camping activities and leadership events for over the past 17  years. It is also acclaimed as the top 3 places to visit in Brunei by Trip Advisor, an independent travel reviewer. The eco village is equipped with “glamping” tents, toilets, main hall, kitchen and a scenic view of the river.

According to Leslie Chiang, Managing Director of Borneoguide, the operator of SEV, “We are always keen on providing learning opportunities for students. Our next school camp is in December and this is open to the public. In conjunction with the Brunei December Festival 2017, the camp will take place throughout the December school holidays. “

The upcoming December School Holiday at Sumbiling Eco Village will offer similar or like activities such as the above mentioned camp. Interested participants can opt for day or night trips.
