Itinerary
Day one 2 pm meet at Kuala Lurah ( Brunei Immigration border) and transfer overland to Medamit ( Sarawak) and proceed by Motorist canoe to the Iban Longhouse at Medalam River where we put overnight. Generally in the longhouse visitors stay either on the wide communal veranda or they are invited to eat and sleep in the private room of the headman's family. Today we come in peace to join in with their music, dancing, merrying & drinking. Overnight at Long house.(D)
Day Two Morning call by Rooster. After breakfast we continue by local motorist canoe to upper part of the Terikan river and continue on foot on jungle path which was once used by the notorious head hunter hundred years ago. We will trek to Camp 5 which was 11 km away. Along the path you will pass through pristine rainforest with unique rock formation. In the late afternoon we will reach camp 5 for overnight. The facilities at Camp 5 are very basic at this jungle hut; you will be sleeping on wooden floors, however mattress is available for hire at a nominal fee. Bring along a bed sheet yourself. (B/L/D)
Day Three After breakfast we will climb the famous Pinnacles of Mulu. The limestone mountains of Mulu are bedecked with sharp needles: the biggest and best examples, "The Pinnacles: are on the north end of GUNUNG API mountain. To reach Pinnacles we climb over 1000 m up the steep path to a view point overlooking the Pinnacles (the steepest sections have aluminum ladders for safety). If the weather is good, the four hour climb will be rewarded with wide views over the forest to Brunei and the South China Sea. We overnight at Camp 5.( B/L/D)
Day Four After breakfast, pack up and continue trek to Long Lutut where we take a long boat to Clearwater caves. We explore CAVE OF THE WINDS with unusual calcite formations, including the tall, slender stalagmites in King's room. A few hundred meters up river lay CLEARWATER CAVE. Clearwater Cave contains one of the world's major underground rivers, plus dry passages adding up to 107 km!.Packed lunch at the Clearwater Spring. Continue by boat to Mulu National park and explore DEER CAVE and LANG'S CAVE. Deer cave is the biggest passage yet mapped: 120 m high and the same wide of its 11/2 km length. Close to Deer cave is LANG'S Cave, small but beautifully decorated. In the evening we will wait at the entrance to Deer Cave, where thousand of bats emerge most evenings to hut for insects over the forest. Overnight at Mulu National park Hostel ( B/L/D)
Day Five This morning we do the Mulu Canopy – at 480 meters long is the longest free based walkway in the world. As you walk among the ferns and vines 15-20 metres above the forest floor and river you can enjoy this unique opportunity to get closer to the rainforest "web of life". There are more birds, squirrels, monkeys and insect found in the forest canopy. The canopy walk will take about 2 hours. Lunch and transfer to Mulu airport for flight out to Miri.( B/L)
